WAKEFIELD — Raffaela I. Bettano, 89, of Wakefield died Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Meadowview Nursing Home in North Reading.

Born in Boston on Nov. 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna B. DiCicco.

Mrs. Bettano was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1945. She had worked for the U.S. government and later for the Paul J. Guillow Co. and Copley Shoe of Wakefield. She was also an operator for New England Telephone Company. Mrs. Bettano was a member of both St. Joseph Church and St. Florence Church, as well as being a member of the St. Florence Sodality.

Mrs. Bettano was the wife of the late John A. Bettano. She was the mother of John Bettano and his wife Susan, David Bettano and Deborah Sullivan, all of Wakefield, Donna Martorelli and her husband David of Melrose, Dorothy Campbell of Clearwater, Fla. and the late Paul J. Bettano. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Storlazzi, Michael J. DiCicco, Earl DiCicco and Mary LeBon; two grandchildren and her foster mother Nellie Sullivan and foster sister Katherine Proctor.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Thursday at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church., 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 11:30 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
