Passionate fan of Kentucky basketball

NORTH READING — Richard W. Svehla – 59, of North Reading, formerly of Lexington, KY, passed peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 13, 2015, at the Lahey Clinic Hospital in Burlington after a sudden illness.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on March 5, 1956. He was the son of the late William J. and Patricia R. (Sweeney) Svehla. He was a graduate of North Reading High School, Class of 1974. Richard worked in the printing industry for many years. He was a resident of North Reading for the past 44 years and a member of St. Theresa’s Church.
He enjoyed New England sports teams, but having grown up in Lexington, KY, he was truly passionate about university of Kentucky basketball. You never saw him without a UK hat or t-shirt. Richard enjoyed concerts and attending the Chicago Blues Festival.
He thoroughly enjoyed watching his nieces play ice hockey, softball and volleyball through college.
Family members include his loving brothers, Robert James Svehla and Michael Stanley Svehla, both of North Reading; his sister, Carol A. Morrissey and her husband Philip and nieces, Brenna and Rachel Morrissey (his Godchild), all of Salem, NH.
His funeral will be held at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Friday, June 19 at 7 p.m. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the charity of one’s choice.
