Skaare-obit-webMELROSE — Robert A. “Bob” Skaare Sr., 70, of Melrose, died unexpectedly on June 29. 

Bob was born in Malden, raised in Melrose, was a graduate Melrose High School, Class of 1964, and was pitcher for the Melrose High baseball team.

He was the owner of Bob Skaare Trucking for many years, was a lifelong Melrose resident and member of the Melrose Fish & Game. Bob was good guy, well-respected, very social to everyone and always very generous with his time helping others. He was an avid golfer and member of the Mt. Hood Golf Club in Melrose for many years. 

Bob enjoyed fishing, football, camping in Sunapee, NH, and spending time with his grandson Jackson. 

He loved his Corvette, his dogs and spending time with his family. 

Bob was the beloved husband of the late Carolyn M. (Johnson) Skaare, who he was hopelessly in love with for over 48 years. He was the loving father of Robert A. Skaare II and his wife Jessica of MD, Jonathan A. Skaare and his wife Noemi of TX and Kathleen M. Crosby and her husband Daniel of Newton. He was the cherished grandfather of Jackson. He was the caring brother of Richard Skaare and his wife Jane of PA. He was the brother in law of Judy Scarinci and her husband Donald and Arthur Johnson and his wife Lorraine, all of Amesbury. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. 

Visiting hours was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday, July 6, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral will be from the Gately Funeral Home on Friday, July 7, at 8 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. 

Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mass. General Cancer Center, 55 Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114.
