READING — Robert G. Bent, 75, a Reading resident since 1973 died Friday, June 12, at Massachusetts General Hospital after a short period of failing health.

Born in Malden on March 26, 1940, he was the son of the late Fred J. and Edith (Lutes) Bent.

Mr. Bent was a graduate of Malden High School, Class of 1959; Essex Agricultural School in Danvers, Class of 1961; and IBEW Local 103’s Apprenticeship Program. He was a retired construction electrician for IBEW Local 103 in Boston.

Mr. Bent was a member of the Reading Lions Club, IBEW Local 103 Retiree Club, Operation Troop Support, Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Wakefield and the Bread of Life in Malden.

He had been a crossing guard for the Town of Reading and had volunteered at the Reading Senior Center for many years.

Mr. Bent was the beloved husband of Suzanne M. (Little) Bent. He was the loving father of Kimberly A. Carter and her husband Denny Boston of Wells, Maine, James W. Bent of Pelham, N.H. and Gary R. Bent and his wife Jennifer of Amesbury. He was the brother of Barbara Panza of Acton, Frances Sorenson of California, Fred Bent and his wife Elna of Wilmington, Alan Bent and his wife Jean of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Barry Bent and his wife Helen of Arlington. Mr. Bent was the loving grandfather of Sabrina, Courtney and Patrick Boston, Samantha Carter, Jacob Bent and Keith, Michael, Andrew and Katie Nizwantowski; and great-grandfather of Cameron Boston, Laci Cummings and Jeffrey and Rylee Hoffses. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. His funeral will be held in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 5 Bryant St., Wakefield on Friday at 11 a.m.

Interment will be at Wood End Cemetery in Reading.
