MELROSE — Robert Leo “Bob” DeYoung, 81, passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on January 19.
Bob was born on August 25, 1935 to the late Leo and Elizabeth (Fougere) DeYoung. He was raised in Cambridge and Arlington, graduated from Arlington High School in 1953 and has been a resident of Melrose for the past 54 years.
Mr. DeYoung worked as a purchaser of medical instruments for the AVCO and Kontron Companies for many years.
Bob loved the outdoors, was a longtime member of the Appalachian Mountain Club and enjoyed hiking, skiing and rock climbing. He also enjoyed the opera and classical music.
Bob was known for his big bear hugs, his kind nature and was considered by his siblings as the patriarch of the DeYoung family.
Mr. DeYoung was the beloved husband of 54 years to Paula C. (Quinlan) DeYoung. He was the loving father of Kimberly DeYoung and her husband Davis Jack of Lynn and Michelle DeYoung of New York City. He ws the devoted brother of Yvonne Zinfon of Arlington, Elizabeth Schipani of Cambridge and Edward DeYoung of Ft. Walton Beach, FL. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be private.
