Enjoyed fishing, Red Sox, Bruins, collecting stamps and listening to jazz

MELROSE — Robert N. “Bob” Schluntz, 89, of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 11 at Melrose Wakefield Hospital after a short illness.

Born in Norwood on October 8, 1934, Bob was the youngest of four sons of the late Rev. Holger and Eva (Carlson) Schluntz. Bob graduated from Malden High School before starting his career as a cabinetmaker.

Bob was a gifted craftsman working for more than 40 years in Melrose. He and his family enjoyed summer vacations in Damariscotta, ME with his brother Carl’s family and trips to Canada to visit his wife Sandra’s relatives in Nova Scotia. After retirement to East Waterboro, ME, he loved trips out west to visit national parks and New Orleans. While in Maine he enjoyed fishing from his canoe on Lake Arrowhead. He was a Red Sox and Bruins fan and stamp collector who enjoyed making jigsaw puzzles, listening to jazz and eating chocolate chip ice cream.

His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bob was the beloved husband of Sandra J. (MacDonald) Schluntz with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. Father of Nancy Schluntz of Melrose and Kristen Schluntz of Hollis, ME. Brother of Edward Schluntz and his wife Gloria of Waban; the late Carl Schluntz and his wife Virginia of Glastonbury, CT; and the late Roy Schluntz and his wife Beverly of Berwick, ME; and numerous nieces and nephews.
