Stentifordobit-webWAKEFIELD — Robert E. Stentiford, 89, of Wakefield died on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Wingate of Melrose Nursing Home.

Born in Wakefield on Sept. 26, 1927, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Esther (Greeley) Stentiford.

Mr. Stentiford lived in North Reading for many years before retiring to Wakefield in 1988 and was a graduate of Wakefield High School. He had been self-employed as a brick mason before joining G.T.E. Technology in Waltham. Mr. Stentiford was a member of the Medford Pigeon Club and the Boston Concourse. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and clamming.

He is survived by his wife Helene G. (Martel) Stentiford; his three children: Tim Stentiford of Maine, Joan Swyers of Washington, D.C. and Barry Stentiford of Kansas; his three grandchildren: Kurt, Brandon and Geoffrey; his brother Edward Stentiford of Saugus and his two sisters Esther Pinciaro of Florida, Ann Kelloway of Georgetown. Mr. Stentiford was predeceased by his five brothers: Fred, Benjamin, John, Albert and James Stentiford and his sisters Katherine Phinney and Peggy Saulnier.

His funeral was held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Interment was at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
