WAKEFIELD — Roland A. Coté, 95, a longtime resident of Wakefield passed away on March 17, 2019.

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of Osias and Herminie (Trahan) Coté. After high school he served in the United States Army and upon his return he began his career as a salesman. Roland married the late Aurise J. Barrieau and started a family. They soon moved to Wakefield and raised their family for more than 50 years. Roland realized his dream of opening his own company, Cote’s Fasteners and Supply, Inc. from which he retired in 1996.

He is survived by four children, Louise Good and her husband Philip of Wakefield, Paulette Bassett and her husband Frank of Salem, Diane Bennett and her husband Doug of Alexandria Va., and Gerard Coté of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, Andrew Smith, Maureen Good, Daniel Bennett and Rochelle Bennett and his sister Lucille Rocha of The Villages, Fla. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jeanne and three sisters, Florence Sampson, Annette Samoca, and Lucienne LeBlanc.

Roland was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. He was a communicant at St. Joseph’s Church and had been politically active in Wakefield as a regular attendee at Town Meeting, a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals, co-founder of the Wakefield Taxpayers Association, and supporter of both the Town Republican Committee and Massachusetts Republican Party.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday, March 21 at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. Interment will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake St., Peabody.
