WAKEFIELD — Stephen Jeremiah Whicher, 68, died on March 11, 2019.

Born December 30, 1950, in Rhode Island to Marion L. (Jones) and Ralph F. Whicher, he graduated from Wakefield High School in 1967. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1971 with a bachelor of science in Chemical Engineering. Steve served for the next two years in the Peace Corp, teaching in Africa. Upon returning to the U.S., Steve attended McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He graduated in 1976 with a PhD in Chemical Engineering.

Steve was an avid hiker, runner, and skier, spending many fun and memorable times with family and friends on the trail and slopes. He was an Eagle Scout and loved to attend Boston sports teams events, especially the Celtics, as well as relax at the beach.

Steve was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his children, Danielle and Jonathan; his grandchildren; his siblings, Susan (Whicher) Wybolt, Gordon Whicher, Brian Whicher and Cynthia (Whicher) Hibert; and his many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A private burial will be held in the summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Steve’s memory to your favorite charity.
