MELROSE — Ruth V. (Murphy) Tracy, 84, passed away at her home in Melrose on Sunday, June 21.
Mrs. Tracy was born in Cambridge on May 17, 1931 to the late Francis P. and Mary (O’Malley) Murphy.
She was raised in Cambridge and graduated from Howe High School in Billerica.
After graduation, Mrs. Tracy worked for The Adjutant General’s office. She also worked at Malden Hospital, McLean Hospital and at Spaulding Rehab for many years.
As a longtime Melrose resident, Ruth was very active at Most Blessed Sacrament Church as a lector, Eucharistic minister, CCD teacher and as a member of the Guild at church. Ruth also worked the polls for many years at Horace Mann School, was a member and past president of the Melrose Women’s Club, enjoyed playing bridge at the Milano Center and was always there to help others in need.
Ruth loved to cook, going to Hampton Beach, traveling with her husband Bill and taking cruises. But most of all her family and friends meant everything to her.
Mrs. Tracy was the loving wife of the late William F. Tracy. She was the devoted mother of William Tracy and his wife Roberta of Wisconsin, Shawn Tracy and his wife Susan of Wakefield, Elizabeth Devine and her husband Kevin of Pelham, NH and Heather Tecce and her husband John of Tewksbury. She was the cherished grandmother of Maura, Hillary, Marissa, Thomas, Tracy and Kimberly. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Saturday, June 27, at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.
Visiting hours on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
