Zafiropoulo-obit-webMELROSE — James Zafiropoulo, 75, of Melrose, passed away on June 20.

Jim was born in Boston on March 11, 1940 to William and Christine Zafiropoulo. He was raised in Medford and graduated from Medford High School in 1957.

Following high school, Jim graduated from the Wentworth Institute. He went on to marry Arlene, the love of his life and spent 45 years by her side. Jim was a longtime employee of the Melrose Housing Authority working as an electrician.

He was also a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Melrose, the Shriner’s in Wilmington and Bellevue Country Club.

Jim was an avid sportsman as a former member of the Danvers Fish & Game Club as well as the Leominster Rod & Gun Club. In addition to the many organizations Jim was involved with, he was also a car enthusiast who enjoyed spending time cleaning and working on his cars.

Jim truly cherished his many trips to Europe, in particular the Islands of Greece.

Most of all, Jim loved spending time with his family. He was a dedicated and loving grandfather who cherished his time with his grandchildren.

Jim was the loving and devoted husband of 45 years to Arlene (Rosenberg) Zafiropoulo of Melrose. He was the loving father of William Zafiropoulo of Washington and Steven Zafiropoulo and his wife Ana of Melrose. He was the dedicated grandfather of Sophia, William and Zoe. He was the brother of Arthur Zafiropoulo and his wife Lisa of California. He is also survived by many relatives and friends.

Visitation was held at Gately Funeral Home 79 West Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, June 24, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at Gately Funeral Home.
