WAKEFIELD — It took awhile, but the vacant seats on the School Committee are beginning o attract the attention they should.
Yesterday, Aimee J. Purcell, 53 Eunice Cir., took out nomination papers for one of the two three year terms to be filled at the April 24 town election.
She joins what is becoming an increasingly large field, by municipal election standards. Purcell has expressed interest in a School Committee opening along with Robert E. Vincent of 22 Flanders Lane, Colleen E. Guida, 49 Renwick Rd., and James A. Horne, 1055 Main St.
The two School Committee incumbents are Rob Tiro and Kate Morgan. Tiro announced this week he will not seek reelection.
Friday, March 2, is the final day to obtain nomination papers from the Town Clerk’s Office, which is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day.
Tuesday, March 6, is the last day to submit nomination papers to the Registrars of Voters for signature certification. That can also be done between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Tuesday, March 20, is the last day to file nomination papers with the Town Clerk. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Thursday, March 22, is the last day to object to, or withdraw, nomination papers.
And Wednesday, April 4, is the deadline to register to vote in the spring election. The Town Clerk’s Office in Town Hall will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day.
Here are positions up for election on April 24, 2018, most of the people who hold those posts now, those who plan to run for those offices and the length of each term, courtesy of Town Clerk Betsy Sheeran’s office.
