Cannata-obit-webMELROSE — Sebastian J. Cannata, a 57-year resident of Melrose, entered into eternal life on Saturday, June 6, at Genesis Wakefield Care & Rehabilitation Nursing Home in Wakefield following an extended illness. He was 87 years old.

Sebastian was born in Messina, Italy, on Oct. 14, 1927, a son of the late Orazio and Mary Cannata. He grew up in Roxbury where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Boston English High School.

Sebastian enlisted into the United States Navy on Nov. 28, 1944 and served his country with honor and courage during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 15, 1946 with the rank of Seaman First Class.

Sebastian worked for the United States Department of Defense as a manager and retired following 37 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed traveling to Largo, Fla. with his wife Nancy and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 4892 in Largo, Fla.

Sebastian was the beloved husband of the late Nancy A. (Saia) Cannata. He was the devoted father of Joseph Cannata, John Cannata and his wife Mary, James Cannata and Francis Cannata. He was the loving Grandpa to 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends were invited to attend Sebastian’s funeral service on Thursday, June 11, at 10 a.m. in The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St., Melrose. His burial was at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
