MELROSE—Melrose’s Parker Siebel of Melrose Veteran’s Memorial Middle School has made a name for himself in wrestling after winning the state championship in his wrestling division for the Melrose Youth and Middle School Wrestling club.

Siebel, 14, had a masterful season with a near flawless 25-1 record – 22 of them by pins!

He was awarded the state championship trophy in February at the finals after taking down all opposition in the 143-weight class. Siebel, son of Chad & Beverly, is an 8th grader at Melrose Veteran’s Memorial Middle School.

Remarkably, this is only his second year wrestling, but rest assured, Melrose High head coach Larry Tremblay and his staff are ready for him as Siebel is currently planning to join the team next year. When asked how it feels to be a state champ at such an early age, Siebel said, “I felt proud knowing that I trained hard for this all season long.”

It was a long, hard fought season for the wrestler who said that his most satisfying win of the season was when his coach asked him to compete against someone who was in a higher weight class as the Melrose team did not have a person in that weight class. It worked out. Another pin, and win for Melrose.

Siebel’s future is bright and the best is yet to come. As for his advice to young wrestlers who want to get as far as he has?

“Work hard, train hard, and rely on yourself.”
