NORTH READING — The North Reading High boys hockey team improved to 2-1 on Dec. 23 as they hammered guest Boston Latin Academy, 8-1, at Burbank Arena in Reading.

“We are still trying to slot players in certain positions,” pointed out Hornets head coach John Giuliotti. “We got some kids extra minutes in this game.”

North Reading raced out to a, 4-1, lead after the first period and never looked back.They scored two more goals in the second and two more in the third.

Pat Driscoll led the offense with two goals while John Merullo, Josh Ramirez, Kevin Murphy, Jack Schille, Jared Valade and Justin Bruzzese all found the back of the Dragon net once.

North Reading outshot Boston Latin Academy on goal, 30-12.

Hornets goalie Nick Ponte improved to 2-1 in net as he made six saves in two periods. John Day mopped up in net in the third period and made five stops.

The next game for the Hornets will take place on Jan. 3 as they host Gloucester at 7 p.m. back at Burbank Arena in a non-league game.

They return to Cape Ann League action on Jan. 7 as they host Triton, also at Burbank.
