MARBLEHEAD — Stephen Paul McGrath, 69, entered into rest peacefully on June 4 at his home in Marblehead.

Steve is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Anne (Henwood); two daughters Allison Higgins and her husband Rich of Brentwood, NH, and Erin Pettinato and her husband Brian of East Kingston, NH. Most importantly, Steve (Grampy) will live on through his grandchildren Gracelin, Emily, and Alexandra Pettinato and Anna, Ryan and Sean Higgins. Steve is also survived by his siblings Bud McGrath and his wife Gena ofDurham, ME, Janice Geier and her husband Chuck, and Dick McGrath and his wife Cindy, of Wakefield, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Steve was a longtime employee of National Grid but really hit his stride in retirement. Steve was a golfer, and playing some of the famous courses in Ireland and Scotland was a lifetime highlight.

He also loved woodworking and gardening. Steve was a lifelong sailor and loved to be out on the waters around Marblehead.

He loved to travel, belt out Irish tunes, and spend winters in Marco Island playing cribbage and golfing.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 8, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North Street) in Salem. His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 9, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead followed by burial at Waterside Cemetery, West Shore Drive, Marblehead.
