Enjoyed reading, baking and decorating for the holidays

MELROSE — Susan Lee (Schoonover) Mahnken died on March 27 in peace and with her family.

She was born in Rochester, N.Y. on June 16, 1949. She left Rochester to attend Marietta College in Ohio and later attended New England School of Law and Boston University Law School graduate tax program. Later, she attended Simmons College where she received a degree in Library Science.

Susan worked in tax law for about 20 years and left that profession to become an Interlibrary Loan Librarian for about 20 years at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, where she leaves many friends.

Susan especially enjoyed reading, decorating for holidays and sharing thoughts and humor with friends and family. Cooking and baking were also favorite hobbies. She spent many years vacationing on Cape Cod with family.

Her parents were William and Leonore Schoonover of Rochester, NY. She leaves her husband Mark; sons David Mahnken and Kevin Mahnken; and daughter Amy (Mahnken) Murphy. Her young grandchildren are Mark, Everett and James Mahnken of Ringe, NH and Kieran Murphy of New Orleans, LA. She leaves daughters-in-law Jamie Mahnken and Kathleen Borgueta and son-in law Danny Murphy.

She was endeared to those who knew her. Wives and mothers, like Susan are the heart of a family. We are thankful for her life.
