MELROSE — The City of Melrose is sharing the following updates for the upcoming week:
Red Flag Weather: No Outdoor Fires: Melrose Fire Chief John White has issued an outdoor fire ban until Friday, November 15. High-risk fire weather throughout the region prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning for all of Massachusetts. Burning yard waste, cooking or heating outside, hot work like cutting and grinding and even careless disposal of smoking materials can ignite a fire that puts people, pets and property in danger. The outdoor fire ban may be extended beyond November 15 if drought and wind conditions continue. Visit cityofmelrose.org for the latest updates on local fire bans and other fire safety guidance.
Yard Waste Curbside Pickup November 18–22: The next curbside yard waste pickup opportunity for Melrose residents is the week of November 4. Bagged yard waste will be collected by the Department of Public Works on the regular trash and recycling pickup day for the neighborhood. Yard waste includes leaves, grass clippings and brush up to one inch in diameter bundled and tied. No dirt allowed. Yard waste must be set out in paper leaf bags or in barrels. All bags and barrels must be less than 45 gallons and 45 pounds. There is a 10 barrel/bag maximum per pick up. Barrels must be labeled “yard waste” to avoid confusion with regular household waste. With questions, call the Department of Public Works at 781-665-0142.
