USAF veteran was a sports enthusiast

WAKEFIELD — Thomas J. Tine, 69, of Waltham, formerly of Wakefield, died suddenly Sunday, Nov. 13 at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

Born in Wakefield on Aug. 31, 1947, he was the son of Lena Tine of California and the late Sebastian Tine.

Mr. Tine was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School. He later went on to serve in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he met his late wife Diane Marie (Semrau) Tine.

They had lived in California before moving back to Wakefield to raise their family.

Mr. Tine had worked for the Boston Globe and had recently retired as the circulation manager at the Wakefield Item Co., parent company of the Lynnfield Villager. He loved cars and all the New England sports teams.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Tine is survived by his two sons: Michael T. Tine and his wife Amy of Florida and Steven J. Tine and his wife Alyssa of Wakefield. He is also survived by his sister Sandy Williams of California and his loving friend Karen Anderson of Waltham.

His funeral service was held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday. Interment followed at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
