Thomas-Murphy-obit-webMELROSE — Thomas P. Murphy, 62, of Melrose, passed away on February 18.

Tom was born in Malden and raised in Melrose. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Grammar School, Melrose High School, and Boston State College. Tom also served his country as a member of the United States Marine Reserves.

He was a longtime member of the Melrose Elks and played for the Elks Golf Team. Tom loved golfing, and was also an avid Boston sports fan. In his spare time Tom enjoyed reading and always attended his nieces’ and nephews’ sporting events.

Tom will be remembered around Melrose as a friendly man who always had a smile on his face.

He was the son of the late John J. and Helen M. (Connor) Murphy. He was the brother of Joseph Murphy, Mary Murphy, Theresa LeBrun, William Murphy, Judith Kossuth, Annette Murphy, the late John Murphy, and the late Andrew Murphy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. The funeral was from the Gately Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 9 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose.

Interment at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
