LYNNFIELD — The boys’ hockey team had three players honored by Cape Ann League coaches recently. Senior David Langone led the way as the Pioneers senior goalie made the CAL All-League team for the first time. “(Langone) was our MVP,” stated Pioneers head coach Jon Gardner, as Langone started nearly every game this season. “He has been with the program since the seventh grade.” Two Pioneers players made the CAL All-Star team, senior Johnny Percoskie and captain Joey Mack. It’s the first time on the team for both players. Percoskie led the team in points with 17, as he had six goals and 11 assists. Mack was right behind him with 15 points, as a junior had six goals and nine assists. “Johnny is one of our fastest players while Joe is a game-changer,” said Gardner. Lynnfield lost to Saugus, 5-2, in the quarterfinal round of the Division 2 North state tournament to end the year at 11-9-2. The Pioneers shut out Winthrop 4-0 in the first round of the state tournament. The Pioneers went 4-6-2 in the CAL this season to finish in fifth place. Along with Langone and Percoskie, the team will lose five other seniors: Forward Tom Powers, defenseman Matt Collins, defenseman Ryan Freitas, goalie Joe Breslow and forward Christian D’Agostino. “I cannot say enough good things about the senior class,” stated Gardner. “These kids improved their win total by at least two games every year they were here.” Lynnfield is slated to return 16 veterans back next year. “We also had a talented junior varsity team this year,” said Gardner.
