BOSTON—The Melrose High boys and girls indoor track team continue to impress, and it showed last weekend at the MSTCA Div. 3 State Relays held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston when they brought home medals for fine efforts.

The girls team saw some strong relay performances from their 4×800 relay team, their 1600 medley sprint, 4×4 relay and 4×50 relay team who all cracked the top ten.

Field events were competed by Noelle L’Heureux, Megan Jancaitis and Cathy Hill (shot put). Those who medaled in events last weekend included Cadence L’Heureux, Meghan Radzik and D’Mitra Mukasa, all in the long jump.

Their sprint medley relay team also medaled behind the work of Cadence L’Heureux, Meghan Radzik, D’Mitra Mukasa and Amy Rowe.

Also collecting medals was the 4×800 relay team of Jillian Bakey, Addie Lawlor, Ava Piccone and Darby Thompson.

Melrose has had plenty of athletes qualify thus far this season including Cadence L’Heureux (600, 1000, mile and long jump) D’Mitra Mukasa (long jump) Sophie McElligott (high jump) Jillian Bakey (2 mile) and the 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams. And there are plenty of athletes on the cusp: Ava Picone and Amy Rowe in the 600, Jill Frawley in the 300, Noelle L’Heureux (shot) Darby Thompson (2 mile) Emme Boyer (high jump and hurdles) and the team’s 4×200 relay.

Boys’ team sees National qualification

It’s been an exciting few weeks for the boy’s team, who recently saw their distance medley relay team of Ellis lurilli-Hough, Caleb Barnes, Sam O’Donnell and Russell O’Donnell qualify for Nationals and freshman Adam Caldwell also qualify for freshman nationals.

Melrose’s sprint medley relay team is also super close to qualifying as well.

And last weekend their distance relay team found the podium with a 4th place finish of 11:09 headed by Adam Caldwell, Ellis lurilli-Hough Sam O’Donnell and Caleb Barnes.

Field event competitors include Sam Madden, Trentyn Hodges and Nick Hitchman in the high jump, and Trentyn Hodges, Brandon Radzik and Josh Grant in the long jump. Shot put tossers included Jack Claeys, Charley Krygowski and Jack McAree.

To date: Melrose has a good amount of state qualified athletes including Sam O’Donnell and Russell O’Donnell in the 600, the Nationally qualified distance medley relay team, Ellis lurilli-Hough in the 1000m and the 1 mile, Caleb Barnes in the 1 mile and Adam Caldwell in the 1 mile.

Those who qualified in field and sprint events include Lex Buffonge in the 55 hurdles, Josh Grant and Tyler Lecomte in the 55 dash and Sam Madden in the high jump.

Both teams will enjoy their last Middlesex dual meet this Thursday (post deadline) when they compete against Stoneham at The Track at New Balance in Brighton.
