District champs after 9-0 win over Stoneham

The Melrose Youth Hockey Girls' U10 girls became District Champs on Saturday, January 16 and will battle for the state championship.

MELROSE — The Melrose Youth Hockey Girls’ U10 team are district champs and headed to Springfield for the State Championship on March 18 after a 9-0 victory over Stoneham.

Helping to earn that win on offense were Meghan Palmer, Teagan Kilpatrick and Allie Palmer, who each scored 2 goals, as well as Bridget McAvoy, Olivia Marcinkowski and Julia McNeely, who all scored 1 goal.

At the net, Audrey Zinck earned a shutout for Melrose. “She played outstanding,” said her coach, Joe Clark, who along with Tom Gukelberger and Fred Kelly, will guide the team in their battle for a state title in Springfield.

On the roster this season are players: Lucy Clark, Kate Doucette, Nanina Fabrizio, Freya Gukelberger, Gwen Gukelberger, Teagan Kilpatrick, Olivia Marcinkowski, Anna Matthews, Bridget McAvoy, Julia McNeely, Allie Palmer, Meghan Palmer, Maggie Pierce, Erin Walsh and Audrey Zinck.
