MATTAPAN — Virginia Nelson, 91, of Mattapan and formerly of Wakefield, died on Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Golden Living of West Newton.
Born in Malden on Jan. 1, 1923, she was the daughter of the late George and Josephine (Gavel) DeRenne.
Mrs. Nelson was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1942. She then attained a degree in Proficiency from Western Union School and had gone on to work as an office manager at Western Union, from which she later retired.
Mrs. Nelson is survived by her sister Lillian Finney of Nashua, N.H. She was predeceased by her six sisters Gladys Obren, Dorothy Wilkes, Josephine Harnish, Helen Liberty, Beatrice Smith and Vera Sanborn and her six brothers: Lawrence DeRenne, Edgar DeRenne, Arnold DeRenne, Melvin DeRenne, Howard DeRenne and Harvey DeRenne. Mrs. Nelson is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday at noon. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home prior to the service starting at 11 a.m. Interment will be held at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
