WAKEFIELD — The Arts Collaborative of Wakefield (ACW) presents “Creatures & Critters Art Exhibit and Sale” at the Cultural Exchange, open this week on Friday night from 5:30-8:30 pm. Gallery hosts Kathy Frey, Kathryn Price, Carol Schena, and Marcy Sumner will be on hand to welcome visitors to the show.

The show features a wide variety of media made by local artists available to view and purchase, as well as a collection of work from WHS Visual Art students. Students have a wide variety of works on paper, painting, photography and ceramics on display.  It’s fascinating to see the level of skill and creativity of all of the participating artists.

The Arts Collaborative of Wakefield’s mission is to support Wakefield’s visual artists and craftsmen.  The idea is to provide opportunities for artists to network, meet and share ideas, display their work, and to create partnership programs between local artists, businesses, and the community. Artists love to not only create but also to share, display and sell their work. The ACW offers opportunities for just that purpose.

Richard Bardet will be in charge of the PAWS Small Works Fundraiser collecting $10.00 donations in exchange for 5×7 art. The idea to donate the proceeds from the 5 x 7 Small Works Fundraiser PAWS speaks to the mission of the ACW.  The donated artwork in the foyer is available for sale on a first come first served basis.  Visitors to the show can select a small work, pick it off the wall and take it home. This ACW fundraiser will allow friends, family and visitors to buy some affordable, cool art and help out a worthy cause in the process. The ACW 5×7 Small Works Fundraiser has also raised money for the Wakefield Food Pantry and scholarship money for a WMHS standout artist.

Marcy Sumner, a fiber artist who works with vintage and reclaimed fabrics to create collages will be in the PopUp Shop. She uses stitching, charms, found objects, scraps from other old projects, sequins and buttons to create small works of art, most of which are framed in found wooden boxes.
