WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield Public Schools logged 66 new cases of COVID last week, as cases numbers continue to trend downward. Sixty-two of those were student cases. Four were staff illnesses.

The following is the breakdown by school, according to data released by the School Department on Friday, Feb. 4:

There were 10 new student cases at the Dolbeare, along with two staff cases.

At the Doyle Early Childhood Center, three student COVID cases were reported, with none among the staff.

The Galvin Middle School reported 27 student cases and no staff cases last week.

At the Greenwood School, there were three student cases and one staff case.

The Walton School reported five student cases and one staff case.

The Woodville School logged 10 student cases last week. There were no staff cases at the Woodville.

The high school reported four student cases and no staff cases last week.

Thirty-five students district-wide have been quarantined according to the data released last Friday. No staff are listed in the quarantine data for last week.

The data were released in a School Department email to parents last Friday, along with the following memorandum from School Superintendent Doug Lyons:

“We continue to monitor our public health data every day,” the memorandum to parents stated. “We continue to see a decrease in our overall cases and are continuing with our mitigation strategies and protocols. We are feeling hopeful that cases will continue to improve.

“Additionally, we have administered 13 tests at the Doyle, 75 tests at the elementary level, 13 tests at the middle school level and 8 tests at the high school level as part of the Symptomatic and Test and Stay Programs during the week of 1.31.22. We can report that all test results were negative.

“We urge parents to continue to keep their children home if they are symptomatic. Although not required by the BOH, if anyone in the home is sick or symptomatic and awaiting a COVID test result, you may choose to keep well students home out of an abundance of caution until the individual receives their test results.

“These new cases, when added to the Wakefield COVID data dashboard numbers, bring our total case numbers, both active and recovered cases, to 1127 students and 199 staff members.

As stated above, these new cases have been reported to the Wakefield Board of Health and have been reported to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

“The Wakefield Health Department will host a COVID booster vaccination clinic on Wednesday, Feb. 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Hurd School, located at 27 Cordis St. The clinic is open to individuals aged 12 and over. The Pfizer vaccine will be distributed at this event.
