WAKEFIELD — On Thursday, September 26 at 6 p.m., the Town Council 40A Subcommittee will host a public info session to update the community on Wakefield’s MBTA 40A Multi-Family Zoning Overlay District Project. The meeting will take place in person in the Public Safety Building’s community room located at 1 Union St. and virtual via Zoom. Additional information about the project as well as the Zoom link can be found at wakefield.ma.us/mbta-zoning.
Massachusetts recently passed a state law that requires MBTA communities to have a zoning district where multi-family housing is permitted “as of right.” Under the law, Wakefield is classified as an MBTA Commuter Rail Community. The deadline for Wakefield to adopt such a district is December 31. Recognizing the implications should Wakefield not comply with the state regulation the Town Council has created a subcommittee to assess Wakefield’s approach.
Should you have any questions about this project, you can contact the Town Council 40A Subcommittee at MBTA3A@wakefield.ma.us.
