Enjoyed time with family and playing cards
MELROSE — Marie McCarthy of Melrose passed away peacefully at home on October 17 with her family by her side.
Born on December 17, 1936 and raised in Wakefield, Marie graduated from Wakefield High School. Marie enjoyed spending time with her family, trips to New Hampshire, playing cards, working on puzzles at the kitchen table and an occasional trip to the casino.
She dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker, raising six children. Marie was the beloved wife of 56 years to the late Edward McCarthy. She was the loving mother of Judy Hunt of Stoneham; Eddie McCarthy and his wife Cindy of Melrose; Richard McCarthy of Melrose; and Cheryl Irons and her husband Steven of Cape Coral, FL. She was predeceased by her son Daniel McCarthy and daughter Donna Corsaut who is survived by her husband James. She was the caring sister to her late siblings Ronald, David, Roger and Joseph Doucette. Marie was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Linda Doucette and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Marie’s wisdom, sense of humor and warm heart will be remembered by all who were fortunate to know her.
Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday, October 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 23 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.
