A devoted Catholic who had a love for dogs

WAKEFIELD — Barbara A. McManus, 87, of Wakefield, died on Friday, January 7 at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Malden on October 21, 1934, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Catherine M. (O’Connor) McManus.

Barbara was raised in Malden and attended Malden High School. She had been a longtime Wakefield resident, living in town since 1964. Barbara had a love of dogs, most especially her beloved Cassi, whom she was lucky enough to have for 15 years. For work, Barbara had dedicated many years to Harmonic Drive where she deburred gears. She was a devoted Catholic and was a parishioner at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church.

Barbara was the sister of Robert McManus and his wife, Carol, of Stoneham; the late Marie (Sparks) Kierstead and her late husband, William, and the late John A. McManus, Jr. and his late wife, Joanne. She is also survived by her three nephews and two nieces. She was also predeceased by one nephew.

Per Barbara’s wishes, her funeral services will be private. Her burial will take place at the Forest Glade Cemetery.

Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home of Wakefield.
