Successful gambler was also an avid sports fan

WAKEFIELD — Barbara Kingsbury, 84, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2021 with her family by her side.

She was the beloved wife of John W. Kingsbury, sister of Marilyn (Joyce) Miller and her husband William of Salem, SC and cherished cousin of Alita (Joyce) Crosby of Georgetown, MA. Devoted mother of Joyce Kingsbury and her partner Thomas Brogan of Derry, NH, Paula Kingsbury and her partner Maureen Finn of Marblehead, MA, and Michael Kingsbury, and his wife Kerin (Klagges) and loving grandmother to Nathaniel and Oliva Kingsbury of Boxford, MA.  Barbara was born on October 26, 1937 to the late Richard and Catherine (Michitson) Joyce of Malden, MA and was a graduate of Malden High, class of 1955.

In addition to raising a family, Barbara enjoyed playing cards and doing crafts with her Wakefield friends, working part time for a local dentist and spending time with family and friends at the New Hampshire lake house. Barbara enjoyed gambling at all levels to include family poker games, the slots and blackjack tables in Las Vegas and Mohegan Sun and she had exceptionally good luck with the Massachusetts State Lottery scratch tickets.  She was also an avid sports fan, following the big bad Boston Bruins, the New England Patriots and won quite a few NFL pools, much to her kids’ chagrin.

A memorial service/celebration of life will be held at a later date this summer. Services are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield. For guestbook, www.mcdonaldfs.com

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the cause of your choice, or to Lahey Hospital Cardiovascular Medicine or Elara Caring, both of which provided excellent care for Barbara.
