WAKEFIELD — Vincent J. Carisella, age 95, of Wakefield died September 8 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Salem, Mass. on July 17, 1927 he was the son of the late James Vincent Carisella and Rose (Minigill) Hurwitz.

Vincent was raised and educated in Wakefield. At the age of 16, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served the country aboard the USS Westmoreland, the first ship to land after the bombing of Hiroshima. Upon returning home, Vincent was a Merchant Marine from 1946-1962, and ultimately left so that he could dedicate more time to his family. He started ACME Machinery but ultimately settled into the role of Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds at the Northeast Regional Vocational School and remained on the School Committee there until he was 92 years old. He was a member of St. Joseph Church and the Crystal Community Club. Vincent enjoyed summing in Falmouth and wintering in Mexico.

He was the loving father of Valerie Flynn and her husband John of Wakefield, Vincent A. Carisella and his wife Lisa of Wakefield and the late Frederick Carisella and Jane Nancy Carisella. He was the beloved grandfather of Melissa Callanan, Brittany Carisella, Vanessa Taylor and her husband Shane, Liam Flynn and his fiancée Cami Ferreol and the late Christopher F. Todisco. He was the great grandfather of Michaela Todisco and Paige Taylor. He was predeceased by his sister, Florence Lazar, his brother, Pasquale Carisella and the mother of his children, Joan (English) Dascoli.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
