Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Relay For Life of Wakefield MA event by joining the community at Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational School on Friday, June 14th at 6:00pm. The Relay For Life of Wakefield will host live bands, a comfort dog, raffles, an ice cream truck, and more! There’s still plenty of time to join the party – register online at www.RelayForLife.org/wakefieldma.
Relay For Life is an event to celebrate our cancer survivors, remember those we’ve lost to cancer, and fight back against the terrible disease. It is the largest annual fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, an organization dedicated to ending cancer as we know it, for everyone.
The event will kick off with the National Anthem and speeches from those touched by cancer, followed by an opening lap around the track led by cancer survivors. A special dinner for survivors will follow the lap, made possible by The Savings Bank. At 9:00pm, luminaria bags are lit up and placed around the track for all to see. Luminaria hold messages of support, in memory of or in honor of someone affected by cancer, and can be purchased online or at the event for $10 per bag. A meaningful silent lap takes place where participants can view their luminaria bag lit up in the darkness.
Teams of walkers lap the track from 6:00pm through the night, in solidarity with cancer patients who are fighting through their darkest hours to the dawn of a new day. In addition to walking, individual participants and teams raise funds prior to and during the event. Examples include a fun #MidnightBingo game and selling lap beads to mark walkers progress through the night.
The Wakefield Relay For Life raised over $80,000 in 2023 and is hoping to surpass their goal of $85,000 for this 2024 Relay! To join this event as an individual or to create a team, or to make a tax-deducible donation, please visit www.RelayForLife.org/wakefieldma.
