Throwback 2024

THIS CHRISTMAS SCENE on the Rockery attracted much attention back in 1940, even tying up traffic in the square as visitors slowed to admire the display. The scene depicted three shepherds accompanied by some lambs following a star to their destination in a distant city. The cutouts were made by students in Mr. Louis Marche’s manual training program at Wakefield High School based on artwork created by local sign artist Laurie Young. While not part of the display, the ever-present Hiker can be seen in the background.
