Avid Red Sox, Pats and Celtics fan

KENNEBUNK, Maine — Jacquelyn M. (Walsh) Lanigan, 87, of Kennebunk, died peacefully Saturday evening, November 3, 2018 at Kennebunk Center for Health and Rehabilitation.

She was born in Wakefield, Mass. on September 2, 1931, a daughter of William J. and Elsie M. (Reardon) Walsh. After her graduation from Wakefield High School and the Katherine Gibbs School she worked as the Executive Assistant to the head of Northeast Airlines.

In 1968 she moved to Kennebunk having married her husband, Paul T. Lanigan and together raised their five children. She worked in the toy store, Animal Instinct, in Kennebunkport and was a well-known and welcoming face in the Port for many years. Jackie was an avid Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots fan. She also was an avid gardener and loved crossword puzzles. Over the years she had honed her cooking skills and become a great hostess for all of her children’s friends and neighbors who would gather around her kitchen table. She was always happiest fussing, feeding and chatting with family and friends.

She is predeceased by her husband, Paul, her sister, Audrey Murphy and Audrey’s husband Hugh.

Jackie is survived by her three sons, Marty Lanigan and wife Karen of Basking Ridge, N.J., Leo Lanigan of San Ramon, Calif., William Lanigan of Westbrook, Maine; two daughters, Janet Libby and husband Ron of Spottsylvania, Va., Rosemary Bourgault and husband John of Paso Robles, Calif.; three grandchildren, Mary Kate Lanigan, Matthew Lanigan and Rian Libby; two nieces, Andrea and George Vorillas, Leigh Thomas and husband John, and grand-nephew Alex Vorillas and grand-niece Parker Thomas.

She also is survived by her dear friend Christi Mosher, who was an enormous source of friendship, comfort and support to her.

Visiting hours will be on Friday, November 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 10 at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary’s Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells, Maine. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield, Mass.
