U.S. Navy veteran of WWII

WAKEFIELD — Joseph E. “Micky” Trahan, Sr., 91, of Wakefield, died on Monday, January 21, 2019 at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford.

Born in Boston on June 26, 1927, he was the son of the late John A. and Angelina T. (D’Eon) Trahan.

Mr. Trahan was raised in East Boston and had served in the United States Navy during World War II. After his naval service he was involved in a number of dredging projects before entering the printing business where he remained until his retirement in 1991 at the age of 64. He had been a Wakefield resident for the past 62 years and was a member of St. Maria Goretti Church in Lynnfield, where he had been an usher since 1960. A favorite pass time was being a regular at the gym where he would spend most mornings before heading off for coffee with the guys. Together with his wife, Mr. Trahan enjoyed traveling. He was a very hard worker and was an avid sports fan.

Mr. Trahan is survived by his wife Rose M. (DeAngelis) Trahan, his daughter Sheryl J. DeCarlo and her husband Carmen of Wakefield and his son Joseph E. Trahan, Jr., and his wife Susan of Pelham, N.H. He is also survived by his five grandchildren; Jonathan, Justin and Chris DeCarlo, Tina Perez and Megan Trahan; and his great-granddaughter Samantha Perez. Mr. Trahan was predeceased by his sister Margaret Lewis and his brother John Trahan.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in the St. Maria Goretti Church, 112 Chestnut St. Lynnfield at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 p.m.
