Longtime fourth-grade teacher

WAKEFIELD — Mary Ellen Tyrell, 87 of Wakefield, died Friday, Oct. 23, at Brightview of Wakefield.

Born in Boston Oct. 27, 1932, she was the daughter of the late William and Delia (Greeley) Manning.

Mary Ellen was a graduate of St. Joseph Preparatory High School in Roxbury, Class of 1950. She went on to earn her master’s in education. She was a longtime fourth grade teacher at the Greenwood Elementary School before her retirement. She had previously taught in the Boston Public Schools and was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association.

Mary Ellen was the beloved wife of the late David C. Tyrell. She was the sister of the late John J. and Thomas W. Manning and is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield, on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, on Thursday prior to the Mass from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
