Avid crafter enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing

BURLINGTON — Nancy (Farrell) Colwell, 83, of Burlington, formerly of Wakefield and The Villages, Fla., lost her battle with Alzheimer’s disease surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Wingate Nursing Home in Reading.

Born in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late John Walter and Alice (Anderson) Farrell.

Nancy was raised in Stoneham and was a graduate of Stoneham High School and Fisher Junior College. She married Paul Colwell and they moved to Wakefield where they raised their family and later retired to The Villages, Fla. She was an avid crafter and particularly enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing and was also known to swing a mean golf club and play a wicked hand of cards. Above all, she cherished her role as a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend.

She was the beloved wife of the late Paul Colwell, with whom she shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. She was the loving mother of Linda Colwell and her cat Snickers of Topsham, Maine, Paul Colwell, Jr. and his late wife Madeline of Peabody, Deanne Colwell and her wife Denise Serrecchia of Wakefield and Susan Colwell and her partner Julie Quinn of Burlington. She was the cherished sister of Jack Farrell of Bethlehem, N.H. and Wilmington Del., Paul Farrell of Topsham, Maine, Richard Farrell of Newton and the late June Tracey (Farrell). She was the adoring grandmother of Randall Smith, Erica Colwell and Ella Colwell; and auntie to many treasured nieces and nephews.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, 173 Albion Street, Wakefield, on Friday November 9 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial services will be private. Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
