WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY — In her final cross country race as a Warrior, Wakefield girls’ XC senior captain Sammy Seabury placed 2nd in a close finish at the Nike Cross Regionals.

Seabury, competing amongst 122 runners from schools throughout the Northeast, finished with a time of 19:12.

“Sammy ran an unbelievable race,” said Wakefield girls’ cross country head coach Karen Barrett. “She went out as fast as she ever has and ran with the lead pack on an incredibly difficult course. Sammy was a fierce competitor and with 400 meters left, made a move and in the final 100 meters moved in to take second place in this prestigious meet.”

Seabury’s effort at Nike Regionals concluded one of the best seasons in school history. She took first in all six of Wakefield’s dual meets and also had first place finishes at the Bay State Invitational, the Twilight Invitational and the Middlesex League Meet. Seabury also got 1st overall at the Div. 2A state meet, leading the Warriors to a team state championship. She took 2nd at the All State meet.

“I could not be prouder of the work ethic, grit and mental toughness that Sammy put forth in this race and throughout the year,” said Barrett. “She has made our community so proud with her phenomenal season.”
