WAKEFIELD — The Annual Town Election season officially opened yesterday. Town Councilor Jonathan Chines, Municipal Gas and Light Commissioner Thomas Boettcher and School Committee member Ami Reuhrwein Wall were ready.
The three current office holders took out nomination papers yesterday morning for the April 26 municipal election. They need to return them to Town Clerk Betsy Sheeran’s office with at least 50 valid signatures of local registered voters by Tuesday afternoon, March 8.
Chines and Boettcher are currently in the final year of 3-year terms. Ami Wall was elected to a 1-year seat on the School Committee and in 2022 seeks to serve a full 3-year term.
Here’s a look at what is up for election this year.
There are three Town Council positions are open, for 3-year terms each.
There are also three 3-year positions open on the School Committee.
Other positions the will appear on the April 26 Town Election ballot include the following:
• Town Treasurer – one 3-year term.
• Library Trustees – three 3 year terms.
• Planning Board – one 5-year term
• Board of Health – one 3-year term.
• Board of Assessors – one 3-year term.
• WMGLD Commissioner – two 3-year terms
• Housing Authority – one 5-year term
• Constable – one 3-year term and one 1-year term.
Prior to obtaining blank nomination papers for any office, each candidate must file with the Town Clerk a statement containing his/her name and address, and the office for which he/she intends to be a candidate. The Town Clerk will only furnish nomination papers to a candidate seeking such nominations or to a person presenting the signed authorization of a candidate to secure said forms on his/her behalf.
Completed nomination papers must be accompanied by the written acceptance of the candidate nominated.
Monday, Feb. 28, 2022 at 5 p.m. is the last day for obtaining blank nomination papers to run for office in the April 26, 2022 Annual Town Election.
The deadline for filing nomination papers with the Town Clerk/Board of Registrars is Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 5 p.m.
Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 5 p.m. is the last day that a citizen my file objections or a candidate may withdraw his/her name from the ballot.
The deadline for registering to vote in the Annual Town Election is Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 8 p.m. (Information on how to register to vote can be found at wakefield.ma.us/upcoming-elections-2022.)
Campaign finance reports are due on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 5 at p.m.
The Annual Town Election takes place Tuesday, April 26, 2022 7 am – 8 pm. The polling place for all precincts is the Galvin Middle School Gymnasium.
Post-election Campaign Finance Reports are due on Thursday, May 26, 2022 5 p.m.
