50 year member of Elks, avid Boston sports fan

NORTH READING — Walter C. Mericantante, of North Reading, died Aug. 21 at the age of 86. He was the father of Patricia, Paul, Johnna and the late Michelle. He was the brother of Frances Venezia and her husband Mario of Woburn and the late John Mericantante Jr., Mary Blake and Leo Mericantante and the brother–in–law of Dorothy Mericantante. Walter is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great–nieces and great–nephews.
His funeral service was held in the Cota Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. followed by interment Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter’s name to the St. Jude Hospital for Children, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis TN 38105-1905. Walter was a 50–year member and two–time Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks. Walter as a child was very involved in the Medford Park League playing both football and baseball. He was an avid Boston sports fan and loved to discuss the local teams.
