WAKEFIELD — Thursday afternoon in Burlington, the Wakefield High boys’ track and field team competed in the Middlesex League Championship against all 12 teams in the league. The boys finished 5th overall with 69 points.

Michael Roberto ran a patient race in the two mile and closed quickly over the last lap for the win in a fast time and personal best of 9:49. Roberto ran the last 400 meters in 66 seconds. Ajay Haridasse ran a personal best of 10:07 to score with his 8th place finish.

Logan Cosgrove had an excellent day as he won the shot put with a personal best of 48’9.5” and followed that up with a big personal best in the discus to place 3rd with his throw of 132’10”.

Robbie Hagopian threw a personal best in the shot put with his throw of 30’5.5” and threw 67’2”.

Bradley Diaz captured the Warriors third victory of the day with his 50.22 performance in the 400 meters. Andrew Roos placed 14th with a time of 56.07.

In the 200 meters, Tucker Stikeman had a great run placing 2nd in a personal best time of 23.13. Jaden Blake placed 12th in a time of 25.53 placing 14th.

Stikeman then went on to place 4th in the 100 meters with a time of 11.57. Mardin Minasian ran a time of 12.41 placing 16th.

In the pole vault, Josh Catino was 3rd overall with a personal best of 9’0.

In the 1 mile, Thomas Dowd ran a time of 4:46 placing 12th. Jonathan D’Ambrosio ran a time of 4:50 to place 14th.

Alex Kent placed 7th in the javelin with a best throw of 128’1”. Cory Sample threw 86’7”.

In the 400 hurdles, James Christie placed 10th in a personal best time of 64.10. Cory Sample ran a time of 68.35.

In the 110 hurdles, Matthew Burns ran 19.80 seconds and Diego Winsor ran a time of 20.45 seconds.

Ben Stratton and Zack Jellison scored points with their 7th and 8th place finishes in personal best times of 2:03 and 2:04.

Javin Willis jumped a personal best in long jump with his leap of 18 feet for 15th place. Guy Jacob jumped 17’7”.

In the triple jump, Stikeman jumped 37’4”. Burn jumped 36’9”.

The 4×800 meter relay team of Jacob, Mike Arria, Braden Carroll and Colin Rudy placed 6th with a time of 8:50.

The 4×100 meter relay team of Ryan Tracy, Willis, Minsasian and Blake placed 9th in 47.59 seconds.

The 4×400 meter relay team of Jellison, Christie, Roos and Diaz placed 4th in a time of 3:35.04.

Invitational

On June 5 and June 6, the boys competed in the MSTCA Coaches Invitational and had some great performances despite the temperatures reaching in the mid 90s. It was great to see the boys competing at the highest level in the State for the first time in a long time.

Bradley Diaz highlighted the Warriors performances as he won the 400 meters in a blazing time of 50.13 against some very strong athletes.

In the two mile, Thomas Dowd ran a personal best of 10:13.

Josh Catino had a personal best in the pole vault as he cleared 8’6.

In the shot put, Logan Cosgrove was third overall with a throw of 48’1. In the discus, Cosgrove was fifth overall with a throw of 124’3.

In the mile, there were three personal best performances. Mike Roberto ran a time of 4:32, Ajay Haridasse ran 4:38 and Ben Stratton ran 4:39.

In the freshman mile, Michael Arria placed 6th with a time of 4:54. Ollie Polster ran a personal best of 5:14.

In the 110 hurdles, Matt Burns ran a personal best time of 16.92.

In the 100 meters, Tucker Stikeman ran a personal best time of 11.39 and was 9th overall. In the 200 meters, Stikeman ran a 23.61 and in the triple jump he jumped 38’6.5.

The Warriors will now prepare for the Sectional State Championship being held this weekend at Weston High School.
