Wendel-Johnson-Obit-webNORTH READING — Wendel G. Johnson – 95, of North Reading and formerly of Lynn, died Monday, November 30, 2015, at Wingate at Reading. He was the beloved husband of the late Marjorie (Downing) Johnson.

Born in Lynn on May 20, 1920, he was the son of the late John and Hanna (Strom) Johnson. He was raised in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1938. Wendel was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He entered the U.S. Army in May of 1943 and was discharged in 1946. He was a Corporal in the 1064th Engineering Forestry Company and served in both France and the Philippines.

Wendel worked as a foreman for the General Electric Company at the Lynn Riverworks for 38 years. He has been a resident of North Reading since 1964 and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. He played the Flute for the Salvation Army.

Wendel had a great sense of humor, he never complained and he loved to sing. He was a loving father, husband and son.

Family members include his loving daughters, Sandra Morrill and her husband Roger E., Jr. of North Reading and Wendy Tufts and her husband Kenneth of Danville, NH; his son, Jeffrey Johnson and his wife Joan of Westchester, OH and his sister, Agnes Downing of Peabody; four grandchildren and five great–grandchildren.
