Hopes to have success against the best in the region
NORTH ANDOVER — Senior Dan Wensley will be competing in the New England Wrestling Championships later on today when he takes the mat for his first match at the 195 weight class with the entire showcase being held today and tomorrow at North Andover High School.
Wensley, the Massachusetts all-state champion, will await the winner of a match between Middlebury, Vt.’s Nick Beauchamp and Tollgate, R.I.’s Edmund Pierce.
For Wensley, he is in the tournament for the second year in a row. Last March as a junior, Wensley wrestled at the 195 weight class and posted a 1-2 record. Wensley gained valuable experience which he hopes will pay off his weekend.
A year ago, Wensley drew a first round bye and took on Nokomis, Maine’s Chris Wilson in the second round. Wensley prevailed over Wilson by a 6-0 decision for his 100th career victory.
In his next match, Wensley dropped a 4-2 decision to Franklin’s Griffin Tighe to drop into the consolation bracket.
In his final bout, Wensley lost by fall to Winchester’s Joe Fallon at 2:57.
