NORTH CONWAY, NH — William J. Denning Sr. of North Conway, NH formerly of Melrose passed away peacefully on Friday, June 7 at the age of 94. William, better known as Bill, was born and raised in Melrose. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1947 and earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Northeastern University. He honorably served in the Army during the Korean War and had a successful career as an insurance engineer.

Bill retired to the White Mountains of New Hampshire with his wife Carol to enjoy his lifelong passion for skiing. He loved all outdoor activities including hiking. He also enjoyed reading, travel, woodworking, photography and his volunteer work with many local organizations most notably Habitat for Humanity.

He was the beloved husband of 65 years to Carol Jean (Corbin) Denning. Loving father of Stephen and Susan Denning of Salem, NH; Mark and Nancy Denning of Melrose; William Jr. and Carol Denning of Melrose; and Paul Denning and his partner the late Amelia Sindeband of Pelham, NH. Affectionately known as OPA to his grandchildren Tyler and his wife Catherine; Eric and his wife Morgan; Rachael, William III, Colleen, Catherine and Sarah. Great-grandfather of Adam. He is also survived by many relatives and friends.

Visiting hours were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday, June 14 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.
