William-Connors-obit-webPEABODY — William J. Connors, 91, of Peabody, died at the Prescott House in North Andover on April 8.

Bill was born in Lowell, raised in South Boston and was a graduate of Boston Latin High School. After high school, Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After returning from the war, he resided in South Boston until 1951, Malden for 41 years, South Dennis for 12 years and the past in 13 years in Peabody.

He worked as a production manager for Braude Brothers in Woburn and Colonial Leather in Boston for many years.

Bill was very active in the St. Joseph Church CYO, CCD, St. Vincent’s DePaul, bingo and the men’s club. He was a member of the South Dennis VFW and Knights of Columbus.

Bill was an umpire for the American Little League in Malden for 15 years and his family was the most important part of his life.

He was the beloved husband of the late Mary V. (McCusker) Connors for 54 years. He was the loving father of William E. Connors and his wife Nancy of Peabody, Maryellen Dooley and her husband Stephen of NH and Dianne M. Grenier and her husband Michael of Fitchburg. He was the cherished grandfather of Katherine Marrese, Erin, Sarah and Allison Connors, Meghan and Colleen Dooley, Michael Grenier and Mary Kathryn Keohane. He was the devoted great grandfather of William and Hailey. He was the caring brother of Margaret Sheehan and the late Mary Cummings. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visiting hours were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, April 12, from 11:30 p.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph’s Church, 770 Salem St., Malden at 1:30 p.m.

Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.

Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
