WAKEFIELD — William J. McCarthy, a longtime resident of Wakefield, died at his home on Friday, July 15.
Born in Boston on June 1, 1927, he was the son of the late Joseph and Julia (Connelly) McCarthy.
Bill was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1945. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, the West Side Social Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Bill served in the Navy during World War II and also served his country in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Bill was retired from the Department of Labor where he worked in the Division of Apprenticeship Training. Aside from living of Wakefield he was also a resident of Rockport for 20 years.
Bill was the beloved husband of Michelina “Lena” (Lucci) McCarthy. He was the loving father of Maureen McCarthy of Wakefield. He was the brother of Mary T. Evans of Wakefield and the late John J. McCarthy.
His funeral will be from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o’clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
