WAKEFIELD — William R. Hughson, 84, of Wakefield passed away on Jan. 15.

Born in Somerville on Jan. 9, 1931, he was the son of the late Walter Ernest Hughson and Catherine Agnes O’Day.

William was a proud Navy veteran. He was active on the Democratic Town Committee, coached Little League, was a Scoutmaster and supported many local organizations.

He was most proud to be the father of six children and 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. William attended many dance recitals, school programs, plays, baseball games, softball games, football games, hockey games, graduations, birthday parties etc, and tried not to miss any event where is children, grandchildren or great- grandchildren participated.

He worked as a printer for American Bank Note Company for 40 years followed by owning Curry Copy in Woburn. William received an associate’s degree in business from Fischer College.

William was the beloved husband of Genevieve “Jean” (Jehu) Hughson. He was the loving father of Joan M. Hughson of Vienna, Va., Patricia J. Doren and husband Thomas of Wakefield, Thomas M. Hughson and wife Sherry of Boscawen, N.H., Diana L. Mirasolo and husband Christopher of Wakefield, Richard A. Hughson and wife Helen of Groton and James P. Hughson of Billerica. He was the brother of Helen Jeffrey of Spring Hill, Fla., Junie Austin of Bedford, N.H., and the late James and Robert Hughson and Barbara Bourne. William was the grandfather of William and August Renshaw of San Diego, Calif., Jessica Miaskiewicz of Pembroke, N.H., Casey Hart and Eric Doren of Wakefield, Lee-J and Christina Mirasolo of Princeton, N.J. and Somerville, William and Anna June Hughson of Groton and Miranda Hughson of Billerica and great-grandfather of Jordan and Brynn Hart, Riley and Brianna Doren of Wakefield, Rebecca, Fred and Robert Miaskiewicz of Pembroke, N.H. Funeral from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o’clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment, VA National Cemetery, Bourne.
