LYNNFIELD — The panel of judges at the Lynnfield Villager had a tough time choosing the winners of the newspaper’s second annual Geraniumfest and Kids’ Day coloring contest.
But after much debate, they selected the artwork submitted by 6-year-old Alyssa Attubato in the 6-and-under age group and 9-year-old Olivia Sieve among the 7- to 12-year-old age group.
Both girls, who reside in Lynnfield, received $50 gift certificates to Meletharb’s Ice Cream at the Four Corners in Wakefield for themselves plus a one-year gift subscription to the Villager for their parents, all compliments of the newspaper.
This year’s theme centered around the traditional images of spring – trees and flowers – inspired by Townscape’s Geraniumfest and plant sales event held each spring to fund its tree planting campaign with the goal of beautifying Lynnfield’s public spaces.
The younger children colored a picture of flowers and butterflies while the older children were challenged with a drawing contest to create a tree they would like to see in their own garden using an outline provided by the Villager’s own graphic artist, John Keating.
The judges were impressed by the variety and quality of the coloring in both age groups and the imaginative detail provided by the older children in the garden of their dreams.
The runners-up in the contest in the 6-and-under category were: Gianna Attubato, 4; Sam Ragalevsky, 4; Louis Tramontozzi, 4; Sophie Flaws, 4 1/2; Aislinn Kleinpeter, 5; Taylor Gassiraro, 6, all of Lynnfield, and Amelie Paquet, 2, of Malden; Vera DeStefano, 3, of Lynn; and Jill Cascio, 6, of Bedford.
The runners-up in the contest in the 7-12 age category were: Emma Wagon, 7; Maura Flaws, 7 1/2; Ben Schumacher, 8; Sophie Tramontozzi, 8; Maggie Davidson, 12, all of Lynnfield, and Deanne Medeiros, 10, of Lynn.
