Warrior boys among the favorites, girls seek to have a strong showing

WRENTHAM — The dual meet season is over and the Middlesex League 12 Championship Meet has been run. So now the Warrior girls’ and boys’ cross country teams are going to be setting their sights on the Div. 4 Eastern Mass. Meet which will be held Saturday at the Wrentham Developmental Center.
The Div. 4 girls’ race begins at 9 a.m. and the Div. 4 boys’ race is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
Wakefield is among 26 schools in the Div. 4 girls’ field and the Warriors, the six-time Middlesex League Freedom division champion, will be seeking to have a strong showing on the big stage.
The Warriors will be competing against eight teams that are ranked among the small schools in the latest Massachusetts State Coaches Coaches Association poll which came out on Thursday, Nov. 3. Top-ranked Milton, second-ranked Tewksbury, seventh-ranked Westwood, ninth-ranked Pembroke, 11th-ranked Dennis-Yarmouth, 13th-ranked Sandwich, 14th-ranked Nauset and 15th-ranked Gloucester are all in Div. 4.
The seven Wakefield runners include senior captain Jordan Stackhouse, freshman Olivia Lucey, senior captain Abby Harrington, senior captain Cassie Lucci, sophomore Amanda Westlake, junior Gillian Russell and sophomore Isabella Kehoe. The two alternates are senior captain Maeve Conway and junior Yvonne Lucas.
Stackhouse, Lucey, Harrington and Russell were all named M.L. Freedom division all-stars.
In the Div. 4 boys’ field, Wakefield is one of the teams being favored to win the meet as the newly crowned M.L. Freedom division champs have been ranked as one of the best small school teams most of the season. Wakefield is currently ranked second among the small schools in the latest MSTCA poll which came out last week.
Wakefield will be competing against 24 other schools in the Div. 4 field. Also competing are eighth-ranked Tewksbury, 10th-ranked Duxbury, 11th-ranked Pembroke, 13th-ranked Melrose, 14th-ranked Burlington, 16th-ranked Westwood and 18th-ranked Marblehead.
The seven Warrior runners include senior captain Adam Roberto, senior captain Ryan Sullivan, senior Nick McGee, senior captain Jack Stevens, junior Matt Greatorex, junior Tommy Lucey and junior Riley Brackett.
The alternates listed are senior Mike Frezza, sophomore Rohan Singhvi and sophomore Billy Stevens.
Greatorex, Roberto, Sullivan, McGee and Lucey were named all-stars in the M.L. Freedom division.
The Warrior teams, both girls and boys, will be seeking to have a great day in Wrentham and qualify for the All-State Meet which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19 in Gardner at the Gardner Municipal Golf Course.
