WAKEFIELD – A motor vehicle accident on New Salem Street resulted in a woman being transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries late yesterday afternoon. The woman was driving her 2007 Honda Odyssey when a 2015 Subaru backed out of a driveway. In an attempt to avoid hitting the Subaru the woman swerved and struck a parked tractor-trailer unit, with her Odyssey becoming wedged under the truck.

After the minivan was pulled out from under the tractor-trailer unit, Wakefield Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to remove the woman, whose legs were pinned under the dashboard. MedFlight was requested but was unavailable, so the woman was transported by ambulance to Mass. General Hospital. The woman reportedly remained conscious throughout the rescue.

The Fire Department remained on the scene until debris from the accident was removed and the Odyssey was towed. The driver of the Subaru was cited by Wakefield Police for failure to yield.
